About Tall Adventure Fam

Hi! I’m Elizabeth, the crazy planner for our family. We are Weekend Warrior Explorers based in Utah. We love to get out and explore the world around us. Follow along for everything you need to know to explore these great places with your own family.

Tall Adventure Fam is to share our adventures and inspire other families to get out and have a good time. Leaving the house with kids can be intimidating, but we want to arm you with the right information so it can actually be enjoyable and you can make amazing memories with your family!

Are you the anxious parent that has to know where all the bathrooms are and what to expect before willing to head out of the house so you can avoid meltdowns? Our goal is to give you all the information you could possibly need to make each outing a success.

Our blog is all about places to visit in Utah. We also provide information on other fun destinations around the world that our family has visited.

A Little About Us

Our family has lived in Utah since its inception. We spend most weekends exploring new places around Utah. When time allows, you will find us exploring places a little bit farther from home.

We have visited 13 states in the United States (and counting) and 5+ countries.

Meet Our Family

Meet Elizabeth

I grew up exploring all over Utah and Idaho looking for different kinds of rocks for rock collections with my dad. I enjoyed traveling with my family on vacations and loved seeing new places. My most memorable adventure was going to Hawaii and exploring all that the islands had to offer.

Being a working mom is hard and I turned to exploring as an outlet and a way to fill my bucket. My kids don’t fight as much when we are out on an adventure, so I often find myself neglecting the laundry on my days off and finding something to explore instead.

I also love researching about places to visit and things to do. After the kids are tucked in bed and the obligatory dishes are washed, I relax by looking for the next place to drag the family to. I absolutely HATE spending money, so I am always watching for a good deal or free things to do.

My favorite country so far is Iceland. I loved all of the waterfalls that we got to explore.

Meet Dallas

Dallas is 6’8”….which is where we got our name from. He grew up living all over the western United States. He enjoyed visiting Yellowstone and cruising to Baja Mexico on vacations with his family. He also enjoyed traveling to watch motocross races with his dad. His most memorable vacations were going on a cruise with his whole extended family or camping at Bodega Bay in California.

He works as a firefighter and works part-time for an airline doing baggage. He does not like to plan trips (unless it involves a cruise…and then he spends hours watching Youtube videos about the ship), so he usually just shows up and goes with the flow.

Unfortunately for Dallas, he likes to vacation (relax, take things slow, hang out in the pool) and I like to travel (pack every waking moment to see as much as possible), so he usually ends up needing a vacation from his vacation. He loves rock climbing and mountain biking and has been teaching us all how to do it.

His favorite country we have visited is Malta, but his favorite thing we have explored was Gljufrabui Waterfall in Iceland.

Meet Little Man

Little Man loves reading more than anything in the world. He will frequently tell us that we need to go somewhere that he read about in a book and we will put it on the Wish List.

He loves to stop and admire everything around him and he is teaching us to appreciate things from the little flowers to the big views. He loves going to museums, especially museums that have hands-on exhibits. He hates hiking but usually says it’s worth it when we get to the top.

Little Man’s favorite thing we have done was hike Kanarra Falls in Southern Utah.

Meet Little Miss

Little Miss is our social butterfly, but if she can’t be with her friends, going on adventures is her next favorite thing to do. She loves to be in the water and would spend all day in the pool or lake if she could. She loves to go to the playground and usually convinces us to find one wherever we travel to.

She loves going on cruises (just like her dad) and frequently lets us know that it’s only a going to be a good day if we wake up on a cruise ship.

Her favorite place we have traveled is Florida, but her favorite thing that we have done is jump on Bounce Pillows all over Iceland.

Our Travel Story

When we got married, Dallas and I didn’t have much time off work, so we decided on a stay-cation for our honeymoon. We saved up and for our first anniversary, we went on a cruise to Baja Mexico.

The next year I convinced Dallas to go to Maui for our anniversary. He had always done the same two vacations, so branching out was hard. We made the deal that we could trade off every year between somewhere new and Old Faithful.

In Maui we spent a lot of time in the pool at the hotel and the beach. As we were driving to the airport to leave, we realized how much of Maui we didn’t get to see, which was sad. We decided the world was a big place and we wanted to see as much of it as we could.

The next year was Dallas’ turn to pick where we went for our anniversary and he knocked my socks off with choosing Malta. To be honest, when I came home from work and he told me that we were going to be going to Malta, I had to pull up a map because I had never heard of it before. Our trip to Malta was AMAZING and it was the catalyst that propelled us into needing to experience everything we could in the world.

Then came kids. We were too busy and stressed to even think about traveling. We were just trying to survive every day.

Then came the COVID pandemic in 2020. We quickly learned that our house was too small for two kids and two adults all day, every day. So we branched out started exploring around Utah. We went on our first family hike and it kicked our butts, but we were hooked.

We have since tried kayaking, SUP, rock climbing and skiing…and loved them all. Of course we did the responsible thing and bought all of the equipment for all of the activities, but now we can go and enjoy them whenever we want to.

Our family has made it our goal to travel as much as we can and try to see all the things. We travel as cheaply as we can (cook as much as we can and don’t eat out, find deals for big ticket expenses, don’t buy souvenirs, etc) so that we can travel more, but with the same budget.
